AVK Philippines has supplied a DN1400 BU bonneted gate to Angat Dam, helping to secure the water supply of Manila’s metropolitan area.
A rehabilitation plan initiated by the National Power Corporation (NAPOCOR) required replacement of an electric turbine at Angat Dam – a key water reservoir located in Norzagaray, Bulacan in the north of the Philippines. The water companies Manila Water and Maynilad supply water from the dam to millions of consumers in Metropolitan Manila and nearby provinces.
In cooperation, AVK Philippines and the contractor found that a BU bonneted gate would be the ideal solution for the project requirements. A DN1400 bonneted gate with PN16 flange drilling, designed for a working pressure of 150 mwc and equipped with an AUMA electric actuator was delivered from Orbinox, a member of the AVK Group.
Orbinox specialises in large-diameter valves for dams, reservoirs and hydropower applications. The valve was produced at their facility in Spain, where a successful Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) was conducted to verify that materials and specifications met all project requirements before shipment.
Additionally, two DN150 gate valves were supplied for the installation.
AVK’s ability to provide tailored valve solutions played a key role in realising the project, and the BU bonneted gate and the associated valves are successfully installed at the dam.
